Safely Opening the Pump and Filter System
Before you check your pump, you must turn the power off and open the air release valve on top of the tank until you hear the hissing sound stop completely. Because pressure can build up inside the pump, don’t open the filter lid until you’re sure all the trapped air has bled out. Failure to do this can cause the filter lid to blow off like a cannonball, and that can really hurt you or someone else nearby.
